Using the Word & Outlook Add-ins

The BrioDocs add-ins for Word and Outlook are on Microsoft Marketplace — you can install them yourself in a couple of clicks. If your IT administrator deploys them for you, they appear automatically under Add-ins offered by your organization and you can skip straight to step 2.

1
Install the add-in
In Word choose Insert → Add-ins, or in Outlook open any email and choose Get Add-ins, then search the Store for "BrioDocs" and click Add. Direct Marketplace links are on the add-in setup page below.
2
Start BrioDocs
Launch BrioDocs from Applications (Mac) or the Start menu (Windows). Wait for the status indicator to turn green — the add-in needs the desktop app running.
3
Open Word or Outlook
The BrioDocs panel appears in the ribbon once the desktop app is running.
4
Start working
Click the BrioDocs button in the ribbon to open the task pane and start using AI in your documents and emails.
Get the Word or Outlook add-in →
BrioDocs runs on-device by default — in that mode your documents and emails stay on your machine. You can also opt into Brio's private remote models, which never train on your data.

Troubleshooting

The add-in doesn't appear in Word or Outlook
First make sure the BrioDocs desktop app is running with a green status indicator — the ribbon panel only appears when it is. If you haven't installed the add-in yet, search the Store for BrioDocs from Insert → Add-ins in Word, or Get Add-ins in Outlook. If the Store search finds nothing or the Add button is greyed out, your organization has blocked Store add-ins — use the manual sideloading steps on the add-in setup page, or ask your IT department to deploy it for you.
Models are taking a long time to download
AI models are several GB in size. Download time depends on your internet speed. Leave BrioDocs open and it will resume automatically if interrupted.
macOS says the app is from an unidentified developer
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, then scroll down to the Security section. You will see a message that BrioDocs was blocked. Click 'Open Anyway', authenticate with Touch ID or your password, then confirm in the final dialog.
Windows shows a SmartScreen warning when running the installer
Click 'More info' in the 'Windows protected your PC' dialog, then click 'Run anyway'. This warning is expected while code signing is pending for beta builds.
